This Year The International 2017 is Must-See TV

August 7, 2017

Key Arena Seattle will host TI7 (The International 7) this week culminating in a finals event on Saturday boasting a prize pool of $23.8M.  The best DOTA2 (Defenders of the Ancients) team in the world will earn $10.4M in front of a sold out 17,500 seat arena where tickets sold at $200 a pop. Do we have your attention, yet?

While the prize money continues to be headline news growing exponentially since its first event in 2011, what’s most important is what the teams at VALVE and TWITCH have decided to do this year.  For those of us who may be unfamiliar with DOTA2 and the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game genre, there’s a TWITCH channel for that now: While some have expressed concerns about a high-barrier of entry into the esports world, production like this will alleviate those worries.

So if you’re still trying to get a better understanding of what games dominate the esports scene and why millions of players dedicate themselves to games like League of Legends or DOTA2, now’s the time to check it out.  The latest trailer for this massively successful game was only just released a couple of days ago here: We’ll wait. If you’re still on the fence, just know the game is free-to-play so hopefully started your download already.  In the meantime, we’ll be rooting for our home team Evil Geniuses throughout the week at TI7 along with 20 million fans like us. Why not join the battle?
